Low Platelets

It is estimated that approximately 30% of all Cavaliers are affected by a low platelet disorder called *idiopathic thrombocytopenia*.  The VAST majority of Cavaliers with this condition are asymptomatic despite very low platelet counts, and do NOT NEED TREATMENT OF ANY KIND!  For more on this condition please see the following sites:

If your vet finds a very low platelet count on your Cavalier during a routine blood test and becomes alarmed, please take copies of the above article to him/her to read.  In the vast majority of cases, absolutely no medical intervention is needed.
